Quickly and accurately determining levels of essential nutrients in the body to personalize supplementation is now possible with Czech startup Trime. Known for its high-quality dietary supplements that closely resemble nutrient-rich foods, Trime has launched DBS (Dried Blood Spot) tests to measure vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid levels from a single drop of blood. Alongside the tests, Trime has introduced a digital platform that interprets the results and provides personalized recommendations for supplementation and lifestyle adjustments.

“Taking supplements without understanding your health status is counterproductive and can even be harmful in some cases. That’s why we wanted to offer our users a comprehensive platform that allows them to take a targeted approach to supplementation, track progress over time, and receive guidance on what steps to take next—not only in supplementation but also in improving overall health,” explains Michal Kočí, co-founder and CEO of Trime.

Measure Key Nutrient Levels from a Drop of Blood

Trime’s new DBS tests measure nutrient levels using just a small blood sample. The first test focuses on vitamin D, a nutrient commonly deficient in the Czech population. The second evaluates levels of omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and provides an Omega-3 Index, a recognized marker of cardiovascular health. Customers can order the tests online, collect their sample at home using the provided kit, and send it to the lab via a courier service. Results are then delivered through Trime’s digital platform.

“With just a few drops of blood, users can easily measure their nutrient levels. Our platform provides results within a week, along with detailed guidance on how to proceed with supplementation,” Kočí explains.

Context and Relevant Data

Trime’s goal is to provide users with a convenient and accessible way to understand their nutrient levels. The platform prioritizes relevant, user-friendly data interpretation.

“Typically, if you have your nutrient levels checked at a doctor’s office, you’re only told whether you have a deficiency or an excess. Our test provides specific values and explains what these mean in the context of your overall health,” says Kočí.

Trime plans to expand its DBS testing capabilities throughout 2024 to include additional essential biomarkers. Future tests will measure iron levels and glycated hemoglobin, which reflects average blood sugar levels over the past three months. The platform will also allow users to upload historical blood test results for a more comprehensive health profile.

“Some nutrients, like calcium or magnesium, cannot be effectively measured through blood tests as their primary storage is in bones and teeth. We aim to provide only tests that deliver meaningful, actionable insights,” adds Kočí.

Tested by Athletes, Coming Soon to Market

Trime’s DBS tests are currently being piloted by the Czech national cross-country skiing team, with whom the startup has been an official partner since last fall. The tests will be available for general purchase starting in April 2025.

“We’re excited to offer these new products, which will provide supplement users with precise health information and guide them towards more effective supplementation,” concludes Kočí.
